Shillong: While Meghalaya government and the residents are working to fight against COVID-19, the state is now working to track down people who entered the state and furnished fake documents at the testing centres.

The issue was escalated in a review meeting held in Shillong on Wednesday.

Addressing the media, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said that it was surprising how people are hesitant in sharing the right information.

“When returning to or entering the state, it has come to light that some people have submitted fake details like phone numbers or other information. We discussed this in the meeting and noted the matter seriously,” said Tynsong.

He asked as to why people should furnish wrong information to the authorities, especially during this time of crisis.

“From now onwards, the government will not spare any person who furnish wrong statement or false statement and action will be taken accordingly,” said Tynsong.
