Shillong: Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Meghalaya went into a frenzy with the declaration of the HSSLC examination results on Thursday.

St Anthony’s School in Shillong backed 19 positions in the merit list of Science and Commerce: 11 in the Science Stream and 8 in Commerce.

EastMojo visited the school campus to interact with the principal and the excited toppers.

In science out of 161 students, 156 have passed, and commerce out of 171 students 166 have passed at the school.

“Due to this pandemic we can’t celebrate or else the other years we would be celebrating, parents of the children would be coming in and celebrating. The teachers and students are thrilled with this success. Once this situation is over and it gets back to normal, we will do the needful to felicitate our students,” informed Fr Anthony Kharkongor.

Commerce topper Komal Sharma says she was nervous and excited.

“I studied hard and had an aim to achieve 100 out of 100, though most of the papers I was able to achieve, but some not full marks but still okay. If you aim for 100, you will at least get 97,” says Komal.

Komal will not have a grand party but plans to savour the moment, “Celebration in this time of situation is not possible, so I intend to celebrate with family and close friends and enjoy our success. Had the situation not been like this, I would have had a grand celebration.”

2nd rank topper from the Science Stream, Anirban Das is ecstatic at the moment. His key to success is consistency.“Consistency is the key here, I didn’t study for too long, but I did study every day, it helps. The time spent studying doesn’t matter; what matters is the amount of concentration you put into your studies. I would study 2 hours every day along with tuitions. During weekends I would invest more time in practising physics, mathematics, etc. I plan to prepare well for NEET and JEE.”

1st rank topper of Science Stream Kaustab Choudhary said, “I think it is about how people utilise their time. We all got an equal amount of time to prepare for this, and it matters how we utilise the time. It matters where we invest our time in since time is money. I think I followed the advice of my parents, my guides and teachers.”
