Decision made after a petition was received urging Meghalaya govt to allow solemnisation to take place inside places of religious worship
Shillong: The Meghalaya government on Monday decided to allow places of worship to open only for conducting wedding ceremonies.
The decision was made after a petition was received urging the government to allow solemnisation to take place inside places of religious worship.
Deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong informed that based on this request, the government has decided to allow wedding ceremonies to take place inside the religious places and that religious places will continue to remain closed based on its recent order.
“Direction has been given to the deputy commissioners to do the needful. Those parties who want to get the permission will need to submit an application to the concerned DCs and get their approval,” said Tynsong.
The government’s decision is followed after its recent decision made on June 9, to not allow the places of worship due to the rise in COVID-19 cases and wanted to take preventive measures.
