Meghalaya govt reduces tuition fees by 50% for three months

The decision applies to all government-aided schools. Private schools will only collect tuition fees and have waived off all other charges for 3 months

Shillong: The Meghalaya government on Monday has decided to reduce tuition fees of all government-aided schools by 50% for April, May and June. Private schools will collect only tuition fees; all other charges have been waived off for April, May and June.

Addressing the media deputy chief minister, Prestone Tynsong, said that schools which have already taken the fees, will have to make adjustments.

“We received several petitions during this period from parents and traditional heads requesting that the government at least reduce or do away with school fees monthly particularly tuition fees,” said Tynsong.

Meanwhile, exams of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate were carried out on Monday and will end on Wednesday.
