Shillong: Amid the outcry of a constable of Meghalaya Police reported sick and left unattended at LNJP Hospital in New Delhi, the Meghalaya Police on Sunday came out with a clarification.

Assistant Inspector General of Police GK Iangrai said that pertaining to the tidings about Roningson Khartangmaw, a constable posted in Delhi, it is hereby clarified that the official reported sick on May 22, 2020, and he was attended by the unit doctor of the battalion on the same day, after which he was kept under isolation in Wazirabad.

Iangrai informed that since Khartangmaw’s health was not improving, he was referred to LNJP Hospital, New Delhi on May 23 and the medical officials after checking upon his health condition placed him under mandatory quarantine in the hospital.

While the family alleged that Khartangmaw was not receiving proper medical treatment, Iangrai clarified that as the policeman is under quarantine in the hospital, attendants could not be provided to him as the current protocols prohibit having that provision in the quarantine units.

Iangrai added that the unit doctor of the battalion is constantly in contact with the medical officials of the hospital.

Further tests will be conducted to ascertain whether the policeman will be fit to be discharged in the coming days.

The commandant and company commanders of the battalion are also in contact with the official since the day he was admitted at the hospital and essential assistance is being rendered to him as per protocol.

As a preventive measure, battalion officials who came into direct contact with the patient are also placed under isolation and necessary medical assistance have been assisted to them.

Meghalaya Police is closely monitoring and coordinating with the officials of the department in Delhi, and his return to Meghalaya will depend upon clearance from the authorities of the hospital as per established protocols.
