Special trains arranged to bring back stranded people to Meghalaya

Trains from Chennai, Bangalore and Gujarat have been arranged to bring back stranded citizens of Meghalaya

Shillong: The Meghalaya government arranged for special trains to bring back its citizens stranded in various other states outside the Northeast.

Deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong during his daily media briefing informed that the first batch of people will be leaving by train from Chennai.

“The first batch of people coming from outside north-eastern states. Today evening the first batch of the train will start at 9 pm from Chennai and will reach Guwahati railway station on May 15,” said Tynsong.

The number of people coming by train from Chennai is 1,000.

Tynsong also informed that the government has made all arrangements for the people coming. Transportation is arranged by the government to pick up the people from Guwahati railway station.

“The second batch will start from Bangalore on May 16 and will reach Guwahati on May 18. The total number of people stranded, who registered, is around 1,500 and will be returning to Shillong,” informed Tynsong.

The next batch will be coming in from Gujarat. “We have 225 people coming back by train, which will leave on May 15 and will reach Guwahati on May 17,” added Tynsong.

A total of 3,970 people stranded in Northeast states and a few from other states have returned to Meghalaya.
