Shillong: After a video of the national flag being set ablaze was seen doing the rounds on social media, the Meghalaya police on Thursday took cognisance of it and registered a suo moto case.

What was seen in the video was petrol being poured on the national flag and set ablaze. Followed by leaflets demanding Inner Line Permit (ILP), Hynniewtrep Army and won't bow down to any force was also seen in the video written in the local dialect.
The chief minister condemned the situation and said, “I got a brief report about the incident, definitely this is totally unacceptable and the government will not let this go easily. Suo moto case has been filed, technology is there to find out who is behind this. Whatever needs to be done we will ensure its done to make sure that people who have disrespected the flag of this country will not be let go so easily.
Along with the video a message was also posted which reads, "The suppression and discrimination on minority happens from time to time when the government tries to eradicate the tribal through their various acts. Aside from discrimination, now they have come up with acts like Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 to persecute the tribal.
Through this video, we want to show that the Hynniewtrep is not a slavers' state or a dumping ground of illegal immigrants, who will eventually rule over us in the future generation. We are owners of our land and will continue to govern ourselves in our own land."
Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills SP Claudia Lyngwa informed that a suo moto case has been registered at Sadar police station and investigation is on.
The authenticity of the video is being verified.
