Shillong: The Opposition Congress in Meghalaya has lashed out at the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliace (MDA) government for challenging the Lokayukta order for a CBI probe into coal syndicate and transfer of officials and has demanded that they should withdraw the petition.

Lashing out at the government, leader of opposition Dr Mukul Sangma of the Congress said that the aim of the government is to destroy all evidences and go scot free.

“The anti-graft body was constituted to fight corruption and when it is doing its duty by acting on complaints the state government is instrumental in delaying in which it can be interpreted as time to destroy evidences and go scot free. We will not allow this and will pressure the government to withdraw the petition filed before the honourable high court challenging the order of the Lokayukta,” said Sangma.

Stressing on the seriousness of this issue, Sangma urged that people should come out and join hands to demand the government to withdraw the petition.

“Our party will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the government withdraws this petition and allow the anti-graph body to proceed ahead and I urge upon the people to join hands along with all those who will be taking up this issue. It is for the interest of the state it is for the interest of the people,” said Sangma.

He also vehemently said that Meghalaya has not tolerated corruption and cannot tolerate corruption.
