Shillong: Reallocation of the Meghalaya home ministry was taken after former home minister James Sangma had written to chief minister Conrad K Sangma to relieve him of the portfolio.

The clarification was made by the CM on Monday, when asked if the decision of stripping James of home minister portfolio had ended the discontentment within the MDA government.

Sangma said that one cannot look at the reshuffling of the portfolio as stripping. Keeping in mind the coalition and partners so that there is overall coordination among the partners, James met the CM a day before and submitted a letter to him. "He had asked to be relived of the portfolio. It was based on that letter, the decision was made and gave him other responsibilities," said the CM.

When asked if things are good with the coalition now, the CM said that this is how coalition and politics work and things are positive and the coalition will move ahead in a positive manner.

"In any kind of coalition or situation there are discussions that take place, there are issues sometimes they may agree and sometimes not agree. It is natural in a coalition to have that kind of situation and that is all that is there and as they go along they will see how the situation turns out,” he said.

After discontentment shown by BJP, PDF and the UDP, all allies of the MDA coalition had demanded stripping James of the home portfolio. On February 12, Lahkmen Rymbui was given charge of the ministry to replace James.
