Addressing the media, organising committee secretary Sunesh Syiem said that the organising committee comprises of experienced football stakeholders and are working towards executing the championship according to the guidelines and budget provided by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
Syiem informed that Meghalaya is under the tier 1 because of its remarkable performance over these past few years.
“Meghalaya has been doing very well these past few years that is why it is in tier 1. The teams which received the least points are relegated to tier 2 and in tier 2 the teams which have the maximum points two teams are promoted to tier 1,” said Syiem.
He informed that the selection was done in a similar process to the one used to select the sub-junior team that recently won the Sub-Junior National Football Championship. Syiem said that three phases of trials were held around the state involving district associations, clubs and academies before the final squad was assembled.
