Shillong: In view of the special session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to be held on January 20, the district magistrate of East Khasi Hills District in Shillong has promulgated an order under Section 144 of the CrPC.

The order, which will come into force on January 20, will prohibit the assembly of five or more persons within a radius of 500 metres of the temporary assembly chamber at Rilbong, Shillong.

The order also prohibits any person or group of persons from obstructing any vehicular movement in the area around Meghalaya Legislative Assembly premises and also prohibits carrying of arms and any other lethal weapons or any other item or material having the potential to be used as a weapon which can likely cause grievous injury to any person in and around the premises.

According to reports, this step was necessitated on the possibility that some organisations and groups may stage protests in front of the temporary assembly chamber and state secretariat building, during the special assembly session.
