In heartwarming video, group of women heard crooning cultural icon Jyoti Prasad Agarwala’s ‘Luitor parore ami deka lora’ and mixing it with a Khasi number
Guwahati: Breaking barriers, a group of women from the neighbouring state of Meghalaya were seen singing Luitor parore ami deka lora… (We are young people from the banks of Luit), a famous Assamese revolutionary song composed by Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, one of the greatest lyricists, composers and film directors of the state.
In the video, the Khasi women are first heard singing in Assamese and then moving on to sing in Khasi, making a nice fusion of the popular song composed several decades ago.
It is indeed heart-warming to see people from neighbouring states sing a popular Assamese song. This speaks volumes of the ties that people of Assam and Meghalaya share.
Likewise, Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protestors have been singing revolutionary songs composed by Agarwala, Bishnu Rabha, another great singer-composer of Assam, and Dr Bhupen Hazarika to register their protest against the new citizenship law.
