East Garo Hills DC asks staffs to improve public service delivery

Masses get frustrated coming to our office over and over again, but that can’t be the case with us. We cannot lose our temper, says IAS officer Swapnil Tembe

Shillong: East Garo Hills DC Swapnil Tembe has issued notice to all officials associated with public dealings in his office to improve their overall public service delivery.

In his notice issued on September 20, Tembe wrote, “While talking to people, utmost care should be taken regarding the tone and texture of your voice. The same should not be offensive or rude in any manner whatsoever. It should be ensured that whatever needs to be communicated is done so in a polite manner. In case the public is reporting a grievance, patient hearing should be given and the same should be resolved in an amicable manner. If it cannot be resolved at your level, please report the same to the Branch Officer concerned. At the end we must all remember, we are ‘PUBLIC’ servants.”

While speaking with EastMojo, Tembe said, “There were a few complaints that I had received about the behavioural attitude of the staff of DC office, how they handle with complaints and how they were reacting to it. A meeting was conducted with all the staff advising them to behave politely. This message should reach to each and every staff members specifically. Hence, I had issued the memo to ensure all the employees are clear with the message.”

“A training was also held on emotional and social intelligence knowing how to handle public dealings, but it was only for 40 staff members and the strength is more than that so we will be organising more trainings,” said Tembe.

He also added, “We understand the public gets frustrated coming to the DC office over and over making them lose their patience, but that can’t be the case with us. Working in DC office one cannot lose their cool.”

The memo was issued after the DC noticed various cases of rude behaviour and indifference being reported by the public in general with respect to all branches in the DC office.
