Guwahati: National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Agatha K Sangma has won the Tura Parliamentary constituency against Mukul Sangma, the Congress candidate and former Meghalaya CM, with a vote share of 52.2%.

Agatha, 38, the younger sister of Meghalaya’s chief minister Conrad K Sangma won the Parliamentary elections for the second term. In 2009, Agatha also served as a minister in the UPA-II government.

Another party candidate, Ferlin CA Sangma, won the Selsella assembly constituency, by-election for which was held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls during its first phase on April 11 this year. The by-election in Selsella was necessitated following the demise of its sitting MLA and former cabinet minister Clement Marak in October last year.

After the news of their thumping victory came in, CM Sangma took to Twitter to thank the people of the Garo Hills for reposing their faith to the NPP candidates and making the party win with a strong margin.

Conrad added, “We are now looking forward to making sure that the party overall consolidates and become stronger in the region. As long the ministership is concerned, it is something the PM will decide."

Meanwhile, Vincent H Pala of the Congress won the Shillong Parliamentary constituency in Meghalaya.
