Shillong: It’s been one eventful journey for Shillong death metal giant Plague Throat that is celebrating its decade-long existence this year. Even though the pioneering band, which started as a three-piece outfit, parted ways with bassist Iaidon Jyrwa in 2016, the remaining duo of Nangsan and Malice is still making its mark with its intense music and intriguing live performances on the regional, national as well as international stages.

The band was formed in 2008 with Nangsan on the guitar and vocals, Malice on the drums and Iaidon on the bass. The trio, however, had its first ever gig only in August 2008. ‘We are extremely thankful to late Bah Orep Sun for inviting us to play at Powerplay, our first ever gig.’ After Iaidon left the band in 2016, the duo went on to release The Human Paradox, the band’s debut album, in 2017. The album received tremendous response from across the globe.

The band’s landmark event, however, was representing India at the Wacken Open Air in Germany in 2014 which was only a few months after the release of their debut EP in 2013. Nangsan says, “We had crowd-funded our trip to Wacken. Our friends and family supported us in every way possible. When we received some support from the state government, we were already home from playing in Germany.” Apart from Germany, the band also has managed to tour Nepal and headline at several notable music festivals.

Plague Throat is celebrating its tenth anniversary at the Mikado Lounge, Hotel Pine Borough, Shillong, on September 5
