Manipur: Tourists and visitors to the Shirui Lily Festival in Manipur’s Ukhrul are in for a pleasant surprise. Going off the beaten track, members of Katho Katamnao Long, a local students’ body, are welcoming tourists to the famed festival in a noble and unique way.
Led by Mashungmi Zingkhai and Wungmayung Sayai, members of Katho Katamnao Long are rendering a voluntary car-washing service to every tourist visiting Ukhrul for the festival.
Hailing the initiative, one of the visitors said, “Really appreciate the idea and services being done to the tourists.”
The 4th edition of the state-level Shirui Lily Festival kickstarted at Heritage Center Vangayan, Shirui village, in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on Wednesday. The festival is being held after a gap of two years owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The festival is being organised by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with Ukhrul district administration and Shirui Village Authority.
Named after the state flower of Manipur, the festival aims to increase awareness about this rare flower and develop sustainable and responsible tourism in Manipur. The Shirui Lily flower is found only on top of Shirui Hill in Ukhrul district.
