Imphal: Manipur police on Thursday seized several gold bars and arrested one gold smuggler at the Pallel check-post in Kakching district.

The information was shared by Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Facebook.

According to CM Biren Singh, the crackdown against the illegal activities took place at around 10:30 am along the Imphal-Moreh road by the commando unit of Kakching police and arrested one person along with 18 gold bars weighing 2.988 kg during frisking.

The arrested person was identified as Prakash Kshetri, 23, s/o Ratan Kshetri of Ward no 8, Moreh in the Tengnoupal district.

The seized gold bars were recovered from a van concealed beneath the step of the left door. And each gold bar weighs around 166 grams, it said.

Further investigations are underway to find the whereabouts of the gold.
