Imphal: As an ongoing drive against sale, transportation and consumption of liquor in view of the New Year’s eve and upcoming polls, Manipur police carried out a special drive and seized at least 165 litres of distilled illicit country liquor in three separate incidents in Kangpokpi district on Thursday.

According to a statement, Quick Response Team (QRT) of Kangpokpi police station seized 80 litres of DIC liquor while frisking and checking along the National Highway-2.

In another drive, around 50 litres of DIC liquor was seized from one person identified as S Stephen, 30, of Pangmaram village in Senapati district.

In yet another incident, 35 litres of DIC liquor and other illegal items were detected during a vendor drive carried out by a team of Gamnom Sapermeina police station, an official said.

The seized items have been handed over to the Excise department.

Meanwhile, a joint team of 70 personnel of the Kangpokpi police station, Assam Rifles, Kangpokpi forest department and NAB carried out a drive and destroyed a total of about eight acres of poppy cultivation at Ichaigojang hill range at three locations.

More such drives will be carried out in days to come, the Manipur Police said.
