Imphal: Manipur‘s department of youth affairs and sports on Thursday organised a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of ‘Road to Tokyo 2020’ Olympic quiz.
The daily quiz contest is being held as part of the ‘Tokyo Olympics 2020’ awareness campaign run by the Sports Authority of India and the Indian Olympic Association in partnership with the Manipur government.
A total of nine winners were invited for the ceremony and were presented with Team India T-shirts with the Olympics logo and India branded on them. The winners were also given e-certificates which they can download from the link they received on winning the quiz.
Actor-social influencer Soma Laishram, who distributed the prize on behalf of the youth affairs and sports department, urged the people to join the quiz as a way of cheering up the Indian team and also brushing up their knowledge of Olympic Games.
“I would like to wish all the athletes who are participating in the Tokyo Olympics the very best. I am very proud that Manipur has five Olympians participating in the India contingent. Let us all participate in the ‘Road to Tokyo 2020’ quiz to know more about Olympics and #cheer4India team,” said Laishram.
Meanwhile, youth affairs and sports director T Phullen Meitei said: “We are organising this small event to encourage people to know more about Olympics and sports so that they understand what it means to participate in the Olympics for our athletes. The small state of Manipur has five Olympians in the Indian contingent heading to Tokyo Olympics and we are proudly cheering for them and the entire team. We request everyone to participate in the quiz and cheer for team India,” he added.

‘Road to Tokyo 2020’ is a multiple-choice online quiz conducted in English and Hindi.
The details about the contest are as follows:
- The quiz contest will have 10 questions (120 seconds) from multiple themes — History of Olympics, Sports & Disciplines, Past Achievements of Athletes, World Records, Current and Past Indian Athletes.
- A participant is only allowed to make one attempt per question.
- In case of tie-in scores, the fastest participant will be considered the winner.
- Lucky winners will be awarded the Team India/ fan T-shirts every day.
Five athletes from Manipur will be representing the country in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. They are MC Mary Kom in boxing, Sushila Likmabam in judo, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu in weightlifting, Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu and Nilakanta Sharma in hockey.
The Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in Tokyo, Japan between July 23 and August 8 and will feature a record 33 sports at 339 events across 42 venues.
