Imphal: Manipur reported 911 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, of which 205 were confirmed as those of the Delta variant. This is the first time that such a huge number of Delta variant cases has been recorded in the state.

According to Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) Manipur, the variant is known to spread faster than the original strain. It urged the residents to use face masks even in family settings over and above the standard COVID-19 protocols issued by the government.

Meanwhile, of the 911 new COVID-19 cases, which include 14 personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), 269 were from Imphal West, 212 from Imphal East, 140 from Bishnupur, 84 from Thoubal, 83 from Churachandpur, 63 from Kakching, 19 from Kangpokpi, 12 from Ukhrul, 10 from Chandel, six each from Tamenglong and Senapati, three from Pherzawl and two each from Jiribam and Tengnoupal districts, respectively.

Also, 14 more deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, of which, four were residents of Bishnupur, two each were from Imphal East, Imphal West and Tengnoupal, and one each from Churachandpur, Kakching, Kangpokpi and Thoubal.

With this, the state’s total COVID-19 caseload and death toll rose to 77,731 and 1,272, respectively.

Active COVID-19 cases in the state now stand at 7,235, of which 2,761 are in home isolation.

Meanwhile, with 570 more persons getting discharged, the cumulative number of recovered cases has increased to 69,224 and the recovery rate to 89.05 per cent.

The latest recovered cases include 228 from home isolation, 18 from RIMS, seven from JNIMS, 110 from COVID-19 care centres and 207 from community health isolation centres (CHICs).
