Imphal: Manipur Lok Sabha MP Dr RK Ranjan Singh was inducted as a Minister of State (MoS) in the much-awaited union cabinet expansion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government.
President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office and secrecy to members of councils at the Darbar Hall in New Delhi.
Ranjan Singh, 69, a government retired officer and a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Environment and Forest, is among the 43 leaders joining the cabinet berth. He took oath in the English in the presence of PM Modi, Union minister Amit Shah and other central leaders.
Ranjan Singh, who hails from Kongba Nandei Bamleikai in Imphal East district, is representing the Inner Manipur constituency and serving his first term as a Lok Sabha MP since 2019.
Before his political career, Ranjan Singh had a four-decade-long career as a Geography professor and retired as director of the College Development Council in Manipur University.
In terms of his educational qualification, Singh holds a MA and PhD in Geography from Gauhati University.
It may be noted that Manipur is one of the five states that will go to assembly polls in 2022.
