Imphal: Manipur continued to witness a surge in COVID-19 cases after the state reported 656 fresh cases and 15 more deaths on Friday.

With this, the cumulative number of confirmed cases and deaths stand at 42,565 and 661, respectively. The recovery rate now stands at 83.65% with 676 patients being discharged in the last 24 hours.

Of the 15 latest fatalities, 11 were reported from Imphal West and two each Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts.

Meanwhile, the fresh positive cases include 288 from Imphal West, 157 from Imphal East, 71 from Churachandpur, 45 from Kakching, 39 from Bishnupur, 12 each from Kangpokpi and Thoubal, 11 from Ukhrul, nine from Chandel, eight from Senapati, three from Tamenglong and one from Tengnoupal.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 1,456 D-type oxygen cylinders and 355 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different institutions and health facilities in the state, said additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar.

Also, the first consignment of 250 D-type oxygen cylinders out of the order of 2,000 placed by the state government to the manufacturer in Gujarat had arrived and received at Silchar. The funding of these 250 D-type oxygen cylinders is through the CSR contribution of NHIDCL, he said.

Moreover, 182 D-type oxygen cylinders had arrived at Airforce Base in Silchar which was received by the state officials. Out of these, 105 have been donated by SELCO Foundation while the remaining procured by the deputy commissioners of Kamjong, Churachandpur and Tamenglong, he added.
