Imphal: At a time when the whole country is reeling under the second wave of the pandemic, a female returnee to Manipur was found using a fake COVID-19 negative report while travelling from Hyderabad.

The woman identified as Wangkhem Rabina Devi, 21, from Thoubal district was fined Rs 2,000 as a penalty for violation of guidelines under the Manipur Epidemic Diseases (Enforcement of COVID-19 Guidelines) Regulation, 2020.

Rabina, daughter of Wangkhem Ranjit Singh of Papal Mayai Leikai travelled from Hyderabad to Imphal on April 22 by using a fake COVID-19 negative report, stated an order issued by district magistrate Thoubal, N Bandana Devi.

It also stated that the female returnee must execute a bond with sureties for her good behaviour for a period of six months under Section 110 of CrPC, 1973 as and when she is declared medically fit to appear before the executive magistrate.

According to the issued order, after investigation and verification by the Surveillance team at Imphal Airport, it was found out that Rabina is COVID-19 positive on April 21 with sample ID no. 20186628 AP-GOVT.

Such the irresponsible act will likely to transmit or spread the infection to other co-passengers and contacts travelling on the same flight, it said.
