Troops of AR recovered 50 cases of Brown Sugar weighing 649 grams from NH-102

Imphal: In yet another drive against illegal activities, security forces reportedly recovered contraband drugs worth over Rs 1 crore from two separate operations in Manipur.

In a first instance, troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) recovered contraband drugs worth Rs 1.29 crore near Khongkhang in Tengnoupal district on 9 February, said the official.

As per the official, Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles during its search operation came across suspicious movement on National Highway 102.

On the thorough search in the thick forest, the security forces recovered 50 cases of brown sugar weighing 649 grams, it said.

The recovered contraband items have been handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station for further investigation, it added.

Troops of AR recovered recovered 22 kg of Opium worth Rs 13 lakh from Bualkot area

In another operation, the security forces recovered narcotics (Opium) worth of Rs 13 lakh from Bualkot area of Churachandpur district on 9 February.

As per the official report, based on specific information regarding a hidden cache of contraband items in nearby jungle area of Bualkot, the troops thoroughly search the area and recovered 22 kg of opium.

The recovered narcotics items have been handed over to Singhat Police Station, it said.

Two smugglers along with 4 trucks were arrested by Thoubal Battalion of Assam Rifles

In yet another instance, Thoubal Battalion of Assam Rifles recovered illegally transported teak and arrested two smugglers from Saram village of Thoubal district on 8 February.

Based on specific inputs, security forces established a vehicle check post near Saram village and arrested the two suspected smugglers along with four trucks plying with 60 logs of illegally smuggled Teak wood, the official said.

The arrested smugglers have been identified as Phundreimayunm Inityas Khan of Yairipok Heitroipokpi, Khoirom and Senam Ranjit Singh of Bishunah Yairipok.

The seized items and arrested individuals have been handed over to District Forest Officer of Kasom Khullen for further investigation.
