The arrested cadre was handed over to Nambol Police Station

Imphal: Troops of Assam Rifles along with Manipur Police arrested a self-styled sergeant of proscribed group People’s Liberation Army (PLA) from Leimaram in Bishenpur district on Thursday, an official said.

According to an official statement, based on a specific intelligence, the joint team launched a thorough search operation and arrested an active cadre of banned PLA outfit.

The arrested cadre has been identified as a self-styled sergeant Ningthoujam Lonin Singh alias Ibomcha, 25, of Laimaram Mayai Leikai, Nambol in Bishenpur district, it said.

Later, the arrested insurgent was handed over to Nambol Police Station for further investigation.

The timber was transported without legal documents in two trucks

In another incident, troops of Assam Rifles seized a consignment of illegal timber in two trucks worth Rs 40 lakh along the national highway 202 near Litan-Mahadev Camp in Ukhrul district on 27 January.

According to an official statement, the team was alerted about movement of illegal timber based on specific intelligence, after which troops of Shangshak Battalion carried out search and checking along the national highway.

The timber was being transported without legal documents in two trucks, it said.

The drivers, along with the recovered timber, were handed over to Litan Police for further investigation.
