Manipur: CBI raids senior accounts officer's residence, finds undocumented assets
Imphal: A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers raided the residence of a senior accounts officer working at the Accountant General (AG) office in Manipur on Wednesday.
The residence of the AG officer, identified as Budhichandra Naorem of Uripok Ahanthem Leikai in Imphal West district, was raided.
The raid was carried out at the senior accounts officer after the Sessions Judge, under the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, issued a search warrant in connection with a case registered by the Imphal branch of the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), according to reports.
No one present at the residence was allowed to move out during the raid which started around 7:30 am, and ended late in the evening.
The team managed to recovered Rs 5 lakh in cash, gold ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh and land purchase documents among others. Moreover, the list of disproportionate assets registered under Naorem comes to around Rs 55 lakh, which could not account for, the report said.
Earlier, a similar raid was also carried out by a team of ACB Imphal branch at another senior official working at AG office and reportedly recovered Rs 54 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 24 lakh.
The official was identified to be Konjengban Ibothem of Sagolband Meino Leiral in Imphal.
