Manipur: Assam Rifles organises football tournament in Kangpokpi district
Kangpokpi: To extend support to local youths and promote young talents in sports, especially football, a-five-day Tuilang Football tournament began on Tuesday in T Vaichung village of Kangpokpi district in Manipur.
The first-of-its-kind tournament is organised by 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 22 Sector AR in association with the local youth club to promote fitness and wellness among the locals, especially the youths.
The inaugural event was graced by the headman of T Vaichung village among locals and security personnel.
A total of 12 teams from major villages along the Irang River in the hill district have featured in the tournament and vied for the coveted trophy.
As per the organisers, through this event, the unit is stressing the importance of sports and fitness in one’s day-to-day life, and the tournament inculcates team spirit, leadership skills, risk-taking ability, develop analytical thinking and build strong bonds of friendship between the Assam Rifles and local populace from the area.
"We extend our gratitude to the 44 Assam Rifles for hosting such event which promotes fitness, wellness and sports among the youths of the region. And I hope and believe that this tournament will build a strong bonds of friendship and trust between the three communities of this area," said Enok Kipgen, president, Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Tuilang block.
As per the organisers, the inaugural event saw huge turned out of locals to cheer up their own village teams under strict COVID-19 protocols and guidelines.
Ahead of the Christmas celebration, such extravaganza sports activities blend perfectly as locals geared up for the winter festival and it has brought a smile on faces during the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
