Imphal: In a mysterious incident, a human hand was found lying on the road in Manipur’s Senapati district on Wednesday evening. However, the police are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the incident, said the official.
A team of police rushed to the spot after receiving information from the locals and brought back the human object at the Mao Police Station.
“I got a call from Maram bazaar chairman at around 4 pm yesterday informing me that there is a human hand lying on the road which was brought by a dog. Later, I sent a team of police and recovered the severed hand,” said officer-in-charge of Mao Police Station Jonah Raphuba Chawang.
As per the police, the hand was found lying in between Maram bazaar and Maram centre right in front of the BRTF mandir.
On Thursday, a joint team of police and locals along with sniffer dogs carried out search operation in and around the area. However, nothing was found that could lead to further investigation. A sou-moto case has been taken up in regards to the case, it said.

“The investigation is still on, and we are trying to dig out whatever the possible. I have also sent out messages to neighbouring villages for a missing person. But no report of missing person so far,” said the police official.

“According to my observation, it is the right hand of a male adult. And since the fingertip of the hand is shrunk, it is likely the crime might have been carried out in the last four to five days, he added.
On Friday morning, police would be sending the recovered human object to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital in Imphal for a post-mortem to ascertain the age, sex etc., it said.
