Manipur: Fire station officer suspended due to dereliction of duty in Senapati

Three buildings, including one shop godown, were completely gutted causing damages worth lakhs after a fire at the Khobung Karong Bazar in Senapati district

Imphal: A fire sub-station officer in Manipur’s Senapati district has been suspended with immediate effect until further notice for his dereliction of duty following a major fire incident reported at Old Karong on Thursday.

The suspension order that was issued by Manipur Fire Service, Imphal director Themthing Ngashangva, stated a departmental proceeding has contemplated against Sub-officer Megha Singh, officer-in-charge of fire sub-station in Senapati district.


Speaking with EastMojo, the director informed that the decision was taken following reports of dereliction of duty and failure to maintain the fire fighting equipment in full readiness to effectively respond to the fire incident occurred on early Thursday at Karong in Senapati district.

During the period of suspension, his headquarters will be at the Fire Station headquarters in Imphal, and he will not leave the place before permission from the higher authority.

It may be noted that three buildings, including one shop godown, were completely gutted in the fire, causing damages worth lakhs after a fire at the Khobung Karong Bazar at 4:30 am in Senapati district.

The market is located just around five minutes drive from the district headquarters and police station.

Locals expressed dissatisfaction over the poor service of the fire brigade stationed at the district headquarters, claiming that the firefighting vehicle came late at the spot, that too without water.
