Manipur: Women bodies demand clarification from CM on dropping of lone woman minister
Imphal: Criticizing chief minister N Biren Singh for recently removing the lone woman minister from his council of minsters, members of various women organizations have demanded a clarification from the chief minister in this regard.
Representatives of the All Manipur Tribal Women Union (AMTWU), All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) and All Manipur Muslim Women Organisation (AMMWO) have condemned the BJP-led government for dropping lone woman minister Nemcha Kipgen from the ministry. They are demanding the inclusion of women in the policy-making process.
“We are not going to demand reinstating Nemcha Kipgen in the cabinet by the government led by N Biren Singh. But we want to know why she is being removed from the cabinet,” said AMTWU convener Kim Gangte, while adding, was she not competent enough to be a minister?
The women bodies further stated that despite the BJP government propagate to empower women under the slogan ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, the spirit of the slogan does not materialize in action in the state.
“Many a time, people in power abuse their political power, especially against women when many countries are raising awareness to uplift women to bring development,” added Kim.
The joint women bodies also asked the government to include more women in the policy-making body for bringing gender equality for effective governance.
Let the government open its eyes and hear the voices of the women who are abused by the political power in the state, it said.
Chief minister N Biren Singh recently moved a major cabinet reshuffle by dropping three BJP ministers, including former social welfare minister Nemcha Kipgen, two ally party NPP ministers and one LJP from the cabinet and inducted five new faces in his ministry.
