The latest development comes following an indefinite bandh called by Federation of Haomee along the Imphal-Ukhrul road from September 21 owing to shortfalls of healthcare workers, including doctors and nurses, in the hill district hospital.

Speaking with EastMojo, FoH secretary-general Y Vicisy Shimray said: “We will revoke our decision after the state government fulfil our demands in regards to filing the vacant seats of doctors and nurses.”

At present, the state-run hospital in the hill district with a population of 1,83,998 (2011 census) is functioning without anesthesiologist, sonologists, orthopaedics, blood bank and surgeons apart from lack of proper infrastructure.

Simply constructing a building without required healthcare infrastructure cannot be called it a hospital, Shimray added.
