Manipur: Three suspects nabbed in sensational ATM robbery-murder case
Imphal: Three persons suspected to be involved in the sensational ATM robbery and killing of security guard in Churachandpur district recently have been arrested by Manipur police.
According to sources from Churachandpur Police Station, three individuals who are currently under police custody were arrested and further investigation led to recovery of Rs 20 lakh from one of the suspects.
The ongoing investigation revealed their involvement in financial irregularities which likely intricate to the ATM robbery and murder case as well, said sources.
The arrested suspects have been identified as V Thanglianpou (40), K Somen Singh (36) and Khongkham Brojen Singh (40). And, ironically the three arrested individuals were colleagues of the victim who was killed by unidentified armed miscreants during the day-light robbery case.
It may be mentioned that on September 4, Arambam Ranjan (37), who worked as a security-cum-staff of Writer Safeguard Company, was shot dead by some unidentified criminals right in front of the State Bank of India (SBI) Churachandpur branch. The miscreants escaped from the crime scene with a cash amount of Rs 1.15 crore which was meant to be loaded in bank ATMS in the town, it said.
There are around 16 ATM booths in and around Churachandpur town that were taken care of by the Writer Safeguard Company.
During the investigation, the three arrested individuals had also revealed their involvement in money laundering case in the past five years to an amount over Rs 2 crore, said sources.
As per police sources, only three staffs, instead of five, of Writer Safeguard Company were present to replenish the money in the ATMS on that fateful day.
