The decision was taken by the Hill Districts Private Schools’ Association following the education dept's failure to respond to their appeal over tuition fees, salary, etc
Imphal: All private schools in the hills districts of Manipur have suspended teaching and other related school activities for five days starting from Thursday.
The decision was taken on Wednesday by the Hill Districts Private Schools’ Association (HiDiPSAM) following the state education department’s failure to response to the appeal made by the private schools association.
As per the HiDiPSAM press statement, the association was compelled to take the decision as the department concerned failed to review the its June 20 order regarding imposition of restrictions on schools, including aided schools, in the state over collection of tuition fees from the students and payment of salaries to teachers, including non-teaching staff.
According to HiDiPSAM president Richard L Haokip, the association made repeated requests and appeals, however, the education department failed to review its order on the tuition fee-salary issue.
At present, there are around 300 private schools in hill districts registered under HiDiPSAM.
As per the order issued on June 20 by the education department (schools), all private schools with an enrolment of students below 200 will have to waive off student’s tuition fee and pay 50% of teaching and non-teaching staff's salaries and enrolment of students above 700 to waive tuition fee and pay 100% of teaching and non-teaching staffs of their respective schools.
Earlier, various students’ bodies based in hill districts and associations had demanded the state authorities to resolve long-standing the tuition fee-salary impasse before reopening of schools.
