Manipur: 'Expelled' NPP members 'expel' Dy CM from party for 6 years

Imphal: Tensions within the National People’s Party (NPP) of Manipur unit seem to be rising as deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh has been ‘expelled’ from the party for six years.

In a press statement issued by the expelled Thangminlien Kipgen’s group on Wednesday, the deputy CM was ‘expelled’ from the party for six years for “involvement in anti-party activities”.

“On the recommendation of the Disciplinary Committee, NPP Manipur state unit, the president is pleased to expel Yumnam Joykumar Singh, MLA from the NPP Manipur for six years under the constitution of the party,” the order signed by state unit general secretary (admin) Thongkam Haokip stated.

On his expulsion, Singh ceased to be a primary member of the party with immediate effect, it added.

However, sources close to the deputy CM has confirmed that such statement or order does not represent the party as they have been already expelled from the party.

“They are just throwing tantrums which do not hold any ground. The blessings and approval of the national party president have already given to the interim president N Kayisii,” said the sources.

However, as per reports, Kipgen, who claimed to have been re-elected as party president of Manipur unit, accused Joykumar of indulging in anti-party activities and passing misinformation to party central president Conrad K Sangama to disintegrate the party.

Kipgen also criticised the four party MLAs who are currently holding ministerial posts in the N Biren Singh-led coalition government in the state for not being interested in party affairs and strengthening the party.
