Imphal: Taking a serious note of the health condition of an ailing national footballer Ramananda Ningthoujam Singh and considering the financial constraint of his family, the Center has come forward and extended financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the young player for medical treatment.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Union minister of youth affairs and sports Kiren Rijiju said, “Sanctioned Rs 5 lakhs for the ailing Indian junior footballer Ramananda Ningthoujam who is presently at Hospital suffering from blurred vision, along with kidney problem.”

The union minister also assured for further assistance if it is necessary.

As per reports, Rijiju sanctioned the ex-gratia monetary aid of Rs 5 lakh under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons.

The young Indian footballer from Moirang of Manipur is suffering from kidney failure and currently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital in Imphal.

Ramananda has represented the country at various international tournaments, including the U-17 Asian Football Soccer Championships in Guwahati in 2017.

Since there are very limited means for his family to meet his medical expenses, friends and well-wishers had launched a Facebook page in his name for donation. So far, they could manage to collect Rs 4 lakh from the crowdfunding, as per reports.

Earlier, chief minister N Biren Singh had also rendered his help and shifted the ailing young player from JNIMS to Shija Hospital.
