Imphal: Students under the banner of some of the leading student bodies in Manipur have demanded the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) to re-conduct the controversial Manipur Civil Services Combined Competitive – MCSCCE (Main) Examination of 2016 afresh tentatively in October or November this year after the completion of the CBI inquiry.
The student bodies comprise of Democratic Students Alliance Manipur (DESAM), Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) and All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) expressed their dismay over the latest official notification issued by MPSC on August 14 while announcing that fresh examination for Manipur Civil Services (Mains) 2016 will be re-conducting likely end of this year.
The student bodies have also submitted a memorandum to the governor Najma Heptulla on Monday requesting for her intervention to withhold the examination until the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged case is concluded.
The student organisations, in a memorandum, stated that the state civil services exam was quashed by the High Court of Manipur citing lapses and irregularities by the MPSC, causing an irreparable loss of career, humiliation and trauma of those officers and families and huge loss of public resources.
Earlier, in a joint press release, the bodies demanded that the guilty candidates/officers should be penalised and no innocent individual must be made to suffer for the fault of others.
The bodies had also requested the state government to take necessary steps to protect the genuine/innocent employees by filing an appeal or special leave petition before the Supreme Court.
They have also demanded that the investigation of the CBI should be completed in a time-bound manner and report should be make public.
Without the completion of the CBI inquiry, re-examination would be just a namesake, a mockery of the entire system, it said. Moreover, such move, according to them, will equally demotivating for the job aspirants.
In a joint statement, the student bodies also questioned the MPSC if they have taken up all the necessary corrective measures to create trust and confidence among the people of Manipur, to be able to conduct the exams in fair and transparent manners.
It further stated that such notification for re-examination before the final report of the CBI hinted if there are there any hidden agenda to protect the MPSC officials involved in the alleged exam irregularities in the main examination conducted to various posts in 2016.
