Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Thursday categorically stated that the ongoing Indo-Naga peace process will not affect the integrity of the state.

While addressing the Patriots Day observation in Imphal, Singh said that the Centre had assured that the opinion of the people of the Manipur will be heard before inking the final agreement between the government of India and the NSCN-IM.

Earlier, the United Committee of Manipur (UCM) in a press statement staunchly said that people in Manipur will take their future course of action to decide their destiny if the Centre takes decisions which are unfavourable to the aspirations of the people.

UCM had stated following the reports of the Centre working out the date and place for signing the final pact with NSCM-IM and NNPGs in Nagaland by September.

Each year, the state observes Patriot’s Day in memory of those fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives in the Anglo-Manipur War 1891.

CM Biren Singh paid floral tributes to the martyrs at Hicham Yaichampat, Moirangkhom where Bir Tikendrajit was cremated, Thagal General Temple complex, Palace compound, Kangla Uttra and Bir Tikendrajit Park.

Speaking to the media persons, Singh said that the day has reminded us of the supreme sacrifice made our forefathers for freedom and sovereignty of our motherhood and this sense of patriotism should not be forgotten by the present generation.

Deputy chief minister Y Joykumar Singh, cabinet ministers, chief secretary, top police officials and others also attended the event.
