The channel will host programmes in local languages as well as in English considering the diverse culture in the state, says education minister Th Radheshyam Singh
Imphal: For the first time in Manipur, the state government on Thursday launched a dedicated educational television channel ‘Lairik’ on JioTV amid the COVID-19 lockdown. The free television channel will benefit teachers and students in the state.
Owing to prolong closure of the educational institutions in the state due to COVID-19 lockdown, the state government has put an all out-effort to keep the students and teachers engaged despite not being physically present in the classrooms.
Speaking to media persons after the launch, education minister Th Radheshyam Singh said that Lairik is one such initiative by the department with quality e-content of education related information for the students. Lairik will be visible across the country, he added.
“I dedicate Lairik TV channel on JioTV to the students of the state,” said the minister.
The service is being provided by JioTV free of cost to the state government and students in the state with live programme classrooms can be integrated within the same channel.
Through the Lairik channel, students can watch the e-content easily on mobile phones from any part of the country, not only depending on television and any smart phone or Jio phone is capable of showcasing on JioTV.
Students can watch the telecast content on JioTV for number of times for the next seven days. Moreover, the channel scheduled will be managed by department of education, Manipur, said the minister.
Apart from additional class-wise content, the same JioTV channel can also host programs in local languages as well as in English considering the diverse culture and languages in the state.
He further said that out of 700 channels on JioTV in India, 64 channels are dedicated to education which is hosted by the ministry of human resources development under Swayam Prabha.
As per the minister, apart from e-classes and radio classes, the education department is also preparing for notes and solutions for the students to ensure the pupils can understand and clear their doubts while learning through online classes.
The minister also expressed his gratitude to vice president of Vice President of Reliance jio Infocomm limited and JioTv RV Balasubramaniam Iyer and his team for providing the free educational television service keeping in mind the students’ education.
