Heroin worth lakhs recovered in 2 separate operations from Imphal East & Bishnupur; 3 arrested in this connection
Imphal: Three persons, including one woman, have been reportedly arrested by Manipur police in two separate operations in connection with illegal possession of contraband drugs.
The information on seizure of drug items was reported by chief minister N Biren Singh on his social media Facebook page on Friday.
In the first instance, acting on reliable inputs, officials of the Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Division in Imphal carried out a search operation in Imphal East district on July 8.
During the search, the team recovered heroin powder weighing 538.6 grams concealed in 50 soap cases of assorted colours worth lakhs in the international market.
A woman, identified as Anandi (18) from Thoubal district was arrested by the team near Tribal Market of New Lambulane in Imphal East district.
Singh also said that further investigation is on to trace down others involved in the drug smuggling case.
In another incident, a team of police from Bishnupur police station while checking and frisking vehicles at Napat Junction under Kumbi police station, seized 62 soap cases containing heroin from an Eeco van and a Kenbo two-wheeler with suspected contraband items in two polythene bags.
Two individuals have been arrested and they are being identified as Jangkholun Lhungdim, 27, from Motluk village and Thanlal Haokip, 30, from New Songyang village of Chandel district, it said.
On further investigation, the duo revealed that they brought the contraband items from Moreh town of the Indo-Myanmar to Napat and Kumbi areas for sale.
A case has been registered against them and the seized items along with two vehicles have been handed over to Kumbi police station for further investigation, it said.
