Imphal: In a major reshuffle of portfolios, Manipur deputy chief minister and senior National People’s Party (NPP) leader Y Joykumar Singh has been reallocated with three new portfolios, including finance on Sunday.

Chief minister N Biren Singh made the changes in portfolios and also allotted departments like Science & Technology and Economics & Statistics to the deputy CM.

However, names of the other three NPP MLAs did not feature in the new list of portfolios despite reports of retaining them as ministers.

Meanwhile, chief minister N Biren retained portfolios like home, personnel, transport, tourism, MAHUD, minority affairs among others.

The latest development comes after weeks of political turbulence in the state following nine MLAs, including four NPP MLAs, withdrew their support to BJP-led coalition government in Manipur while accusing CM N Biren Singh for functioning the government in an autocratic manner.

However, the party revoked their decision and renewed their support after the four NPP legislators, accompanied by its chief Conrad Sangma and convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) and Assam minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma, met union minister Amit Shah in Delhi.

On June 25, the four NPP MLAs along with its party chief Sangma, who is also the Meghalaya chief minister, met governor Heptulla and submitted a letter of renewing support to the BJP-led coalition government in the state.

CM N Biren Singh while returning from his recent Delhi visit, where he met union home minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda, said that the political crisis in the state will be settled down soon.

Positive solutions for everyone is coming with the blessings of the central leaders in the state, Singh said.
