Manipur CM leaves for Delhi, to meet senior BJP leaders

During his 2-day visit, Singh will be meeting BJP chief JP Nadda and union home minister Amit Shah among others

Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh has left for Delhi on Tuesday to meet BJP central leaders and discuss over political development in the state, including the redistribution of portfolios.

As per sources, CM Biren Singh left from Imphal airport by a special private chartered flight at around 2 pm in the afternoon along with five other dignitaries. However, the identity of the officials is yet to be known by the time of filing this report.

During his two-days visit, Singh will be meeting BJP chief J P Nadda and Union home minister Amit Shah.

Briefing press persons earlier, Singh had informed that assigning portfolios to the four National People’s Party (NPP) MLAs, who had revoked their decision and renewed their support to the BJP-led coalition government in the state, will be decided after talking with BJP Central leaders during his visit to the national capital.

On June 17, nine MLAs of Manipur assembly, including four NPP legislators, tendered their resignation from supporting the BJP-led coalition government while accusing the chief minister for functioning the government in an autocratic manner and undemocratic. However, the week-long political turbulence came to rest after NPP MLAs along with its chief Conrad Sangma, who is also Meghalaya chief minister, and North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener and senior Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met the BJP leaders in Delhi.

Meanwhile, as per reports, the Naga People’s Party (NPF), also an ally of present BJP-led government, is negotiating for more cabinet berths, in addition to the two they already have.

"Government knows our sincerity and sacrifices we have made and principle we had during the political turbulence. And, so we are hopeful and expecting that the government will accommodate additional portfolios to our party MLAs," one of its party worker told to EastMojo earlier.
