Lhukhosei Zou is an accused in an alleged multi-crore drug trade case; special court rejects further extension of interim bail on medical grounds
Imphal: Lhukhosei Zou, the former chairman of Autonomous District Council (ADC) Chandel who was charged in an alleged multi-crore drug trade case, has been sent back to jail by the Special Court (NP&PS) in Manipur on Friday.
The former ADC leader was on bail and had applied for another interim bail before the court on Friday on medical grounds, officials said.
Justice A Noutuneshwar Devi of the special court remanded the former leader under judicial custody as further extension of interim bail on medical ground is not called for, reports said.
Earlier, Zou was arrested with huge consignment of drug worth Rs 27 crore but was given interim bail on May 21 on medical grounds. Later, he was attended at the Christian Hospital in Imphal as an outpatient and the doctor advised him complete bed rest for a period of one month.
A contempt case is underway against the then investigation officer of the case and additional SP of NAB Thounaojam Brinda after the police officer strongly criticised and to have posted for derogatory remarks against the judicial and bail hearing of the former ADC leader Zou on drug smuggling case.
The Division Bench of the Manipur High Court, comprising of justice Lanusukum Jamir and justice KH Nobin, was hearing the contempt case.
