Former Manipur governor Ved Marwah passes away in Goa at 87

Ved Marwah served as governor of Manipur from 1999 to 2003, Mizoram from 2000 to 2001 and Jharkhand from 2003 to 2004

Imphal: Former governor of Manipur and Mizoram, Ved Marwah, passed away in Goa on Friday evening. He was 87.

According to reports, he breathed his last at Asilo Hospital in Mapusa town in north Goa. He was admitted at the hospital for the past three weeks after he suffered a fall at his residence in Goa, it said.

On Saturday, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh took to Twitter to offer his condolences. “Saddened to hear the demise of Ved Marwah, IPS and Ex-governor of Manipur, Jharkhand & Mizoram.”

He will be remembered for his rich contributions to public life. For Manipur, we lost one of the finest Governor who served the state, he added.

Manipur governor Najma Heptulla also said, “Deeply saddened at the loss of former governor of Manipur and CP of Delhi, Shri Ved Marwah. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.”

Marwah had served as the governor of Manipur from 1999 to 2003. Later, he was appointed as the governor of Mizoram (2000-2001) and Jharkhand (2003-2004), as per reports.

The former governor was also the police commissioner of Delhi from 1985 to 1988 and served as the third director general of the elite National Security Guard from 1988 to 1990.
