66 packets (767 gm) of suspected contraband items recovered from under the bonnet of vehicle during routine checking by security personnel in Tengnoupal, 3 held
Imphal: Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (south) recovered huge cache of suspected narcotic items worth crores in the international market from Tengnoupal district in Manipur.
The seized items are said to have been smuggled from international market neighbouring Myanmar and were being transported to Imphal, according to an official report.
During a regular check at a mobile vehicle check post, troops of Tengnoupal Battalion of HQ Pallel sector intercepted a vehicle coming from Moreh. On checking, a total of 66 packets (767 grams) of suspected contraband items were recovered under the bonnet of the vehicle, it said.
In connection with the illicit drug smuggling case, three persons were arrested. They have been identified as driver Anish Khan, 26, Md Tomba, 27, and Azizoor. All the three arrested individuals belong to Thoubal district, the report said.
As per the police, the vehicle they were travelling with had a valid essential vehicle pass.
Due to the ongoing lockdown over COVID-19 pandemic, movement of vehicles is limited, except those who have valid vehicle passes for transporting essential commodities.
The arrested individuals along with the recovered drug items have been handed over to Tengnoupal police station for further investigation, it said.
