Imphal: Three more persons from Imphal West district in Manipur tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday night, taking the confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in the state to 58.
At present, there are 53 active cases of COVID-19 and five already discharged from hospitals, including the latest patient from Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) on Thursday, said additional director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang.
The samples of the three persons, all male, were tested at Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and later shifted to COVID-19 Care facility at RIMS for observation.
As per an official report, there are 25 active cases undergoing treatment at RIMS and another 28 active cases are at JNIMS.
All necessary control measures, including contact tracing and containment process are in place as precautionary measure, it said.
Churachandpur district has the highest number of active cases for COVID-19 with 20. Of the 20 active cases, 19 are Chennai returnees and one came back from Guwahati, said district surveillance officer Dr Ngahneikim Haokip.
So far, a total of 492 samples have tested, including 151 on Thursday, he said.
In view of the rapid rise of fresh COVID-19 cases in Manipur, chief minister N Biren Singh on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting with state health officials, health mission and authorities of UNACCO School in Imphal West.
The meeting resolved to set up a 100-bedded temporary COVID-19 Care Centre at UNACCO School, Meitram in Imphal West to treat only COVID-19 patients.
