Manipur minister Letpao Haokip undertakes 2-day tour of interior villages bordering Myanmar in Chandel district; assures help to locals until COVID-19 pandemic is over
Imphal: Manipur water resources and youth affairs & sports minister Letpao Haokip carried out a two-day tour of interior villages bordering Myanmar in Chandel district on Wednesday and Thursday and took stock of the COVID-19 tacking measures being taken up in the area.
During his visit, the minister personally handed over relief materials to the locals and interacted with leaders and village chiefs of the area.
Locals along the interior areas often crossed the border to purchased essential items in Myanmar side posing threat of infecting COVID-19 virus. The minister also appealed the villagers to act responsibly and be extra-cautious as the risk of the COVID-19 pandemic is higher in areas along the borders.
He further assured the locals that he will continuously provide essential items until the pandemic lasts, either from the government arrangements or from his own personal capacity.
During the two-day tour, minister Haokip and his team covered more than 60 villages lying along the Myanmar border areas. He also visited the newly re-installed Molcham police station.
As per reports, the police station had been lying non-functioning for more than three decades for unknown reasons.
But in relation with the current COVID-19 pandemic and to maintain law and order along the border area, the state government re-installed the police station after much pressure from the minister, district administration and village chiefs, it said.
As part of the tour, minister Letpao also installed good number of solar lamp posts in T Nampao.
