Imphal: Three more persons from Imphal West district have tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur on Monday night, causing the state tally to soar to 39. With these new cases, the state now has 35 active cases.

According to additional director, Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang, the samples of the positive patients were collected on May 20.

A total of 323 samples were tested on Monday at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL), Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital in Imphal, out of which three turned out to be positive for COVID-19, Dr Mangang said.

As of now, all COVID-19 patients are the returnees from various parts of the country either by trains or hired vehicles. To contain the rapid spread of the virus in Manipur, the state government has already laid out strict rules for the returnees.

Those returnees from metro cities who do not comply with the mandatory institutional quarantine of 14 days’ will be prosecuted and put in jail. It is also mandatory for returnees who fly into the state to stay at an institutional quarantine centre till they tested negative for COVID-19 or after completion of 14 days’ period as per the minister of home affairs (MHA) guidelines and protocols.

Since the first fresh case of COVID-19 reported in Manipur on May 13, almost everyday the state is reporting fresh cases causing panic among the citizens.
