Imphal: Two more cases for COVID-19 cases were detected in Manipur from Churachandpur and Noney districts, respectively, on Sunday night. With this, the total number of confirmed cases of novel coronavirus has gone up to 34 in the state, with 30 active cases.

Four persons, including the first two patients, have already been discharged from the hospitals after they were declared free from the virus.

The sample of the 26-year-old man from Churachandpur district was tested at Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital in Imphal, said additional director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang.

He is now admitted in isolation facility of the district hospital in Churachandpur district.

With this, Churachandpur district now has 18 confirmed cases of COVID-19, the highest in the state.

The other new patient -- a 24-year-old man from Noney district was tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday night, the first case in the district. He will be shifted to COVID-19 Care Center facility at RIMS Hospital, a senior official said.

Both the patients’ health condition is stable, the official added.

In Manipur, most patients infected with COVID-19 virus are those returnees coming home from various metro cities since the beginning of this month.

More than 14,000 stranded passengers have already arrived in the state after the government initiated the massive evacuation drive by the Indian Railways’ special trains and hired buses.

The last train for the first phase of evacuation to the stranded Manipur natives in metro cities will be flagged off on Monday evening from Delhi.

The second phase will be announced as per the testing capacity of those who are already in quarantine centers to avoid crowding and community transmission, the official said.
