Imphal: In what could be termed as alarming, at least 11 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur on Wednesday, including a 23-day old baby from Churachandpur district. The youngest among the COVID-19 patients in the state.
This is the highest single-day rise in COVID-19 cases in the state. The total number of people with novel coronavirus has increased to 20, including 18 active cases.
As per the additional director Dr K Susheekumar Mangang, a total of 90 samples were tested on Wednesday at the VRDL, JNIMS, of which 11 were tested positive for COVID-19.
As per the report, among the newly tested COVID19 patients, nine of them recently returned from Chennai by train and the remaining two from Delhi and Guwahati by road, respectively.
The ten COVID-19 patients belonging to Churachandpur district will be admitted to JNIMS hospital for the treatment and one from Imphal East will be at RIMS, the official said.
Moreover, of the 11 COVID-19 infected person, seven were quarantined at Youth Hostel near Churachandpur College, three from SSPP Residential School in Churachandpur district and the remaining one was at JNV Yaralpat in Imphal.
The containment has been processed in the quarantine centres, the official said.
Earlier on Tuesday, JNIMS Director Dr Th Bhimo Singh said that three patients who are being treated at the COVID Care Center at JNIMS hospital are not displaying COVID-1 symptoms and could recover soon.
Manipur first reported a fresh case of COVID-19 after a month with 31-year-old man, a Mumbai returnee, testing positive on May 14.
The first two patients have been discharged from the hospital after they were declared free from the virus in March and April, respectively.
