Manipur: 2 more test positive for COVID-19, state tally rises to 9

64-year-old woman, her 23-year-old daughter from Manipur’s Kamjong district, who returned from Delhi by bus on May 16, test positive for COVID-19; both asymptomatic

Imphal: Two more cases of COVID-19 positive were reported in Manipur on Tuesday, taking the total number of cases of the novel coronavirus in the state to nine.

A 64-year-old woman and her 23-year-old daughter from Kamjong district of Manipur, who returned from Delhi by bus via Mao Gate on May 16, are the latest patients of the novel coronavirus in Manipur. Both the patients are asymptomatic as of now, informed additional health director Dr K Susheekumar Mangang.

As per test reports, the mother-daughter duo had gone to Delhi for medical treatment at AIIMS Hospital and stayed at Kotla Mubarakpur in south Delhi.

They were on quarantine at an institutional quarantine centre at IIIT Mantripukhri in Imphal; however, the patients have now been shifted to COVID-19 care center at RIMS for treatment, he said.

All the other 20 co-passengers coming from Delhi have been identified and contact tracing has been initiated as precautionary measure to avoid further spread of the virus in the state, it said.

Moreover, containment will be carried out, including the quarantine centre, as per the protocol.

In just one week, Manipur has already witnessed seven active positive cases of COVID-19, the first fresh case being reported on May 14 with a 31-year-old man from Imphal East, a Mumbai returnee by hired vehicle.

Of the total seven active cases for COVID-19 positive, three had returned from Mumbai by hired vehicles, another from Kolkata by road and one more girl from Chennai by the Indian Railways’ special train.

As per the official, all the active COVID-19 patients are asymptomatic.

The first two COVID-19 patients have already been discharged from the hospital after they were declared free from the virus.
